  1. The maxim is to seek Good, and to seek it for others as you seek it for yourself (Humanist version of Matt 22:35-40).

    We call something “good” if it meets a real need we have as an individual, as a society, or as a species.

    The universal law concept is a “rule for rules”. We may not impose a rule upon others that we are not willing to impose upon ourselves. It is not a basis for morality, but rather a basis for fair rules.

    Morality is the intent to achieve good and reduce harm for everyone. Rule systems like laws and ethics are referred to a “moral codes”, because they are intended to serve moral intent.
