Review: Truth in Religion

Truth in Religion
Truth in Religion by Mortimer J. Adler

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Mortimer J. Alder presents his case that Western Civilization has, through its technological, scientific, and mathematical achievements, become the world civilization and that this has serious ramifications for all of us, whether “Westerners” in the traditional sense of the word or not. Of particular interest and value are his discussions of the difference between the transcultural values which the triumph of Western Civilization entails that all people adopt and the tolerance of and appreciation for the particular tastes of various cultures and individuals, his arguments regarding the unity of truth and the impossible of a dual-truth universe, and his treatment of what all of this means for the world as we move forward into the future. I recommend this book for anyone interested in understanding the origin and direction of thought in the modern world and formulating a consistent and sound basis for further conjecture and development.
