The Congregation Mickve Israel is the third oldest Jewish congregation in the United States, having been founded in 1733, and the only neo-Gothic style synagogue in the United States. My family and I had the opportunity to visit a few days ago and these are a few photographs from the trip. Most are of the nave of the synagogue. The scroll is a deer-skin Torah scroll which may (precise dating is impossible, unfortunately) may the oldest Torah scroll in the United States; it was written sometime in or before the 15th century, possibly in Spain, and brought over by the founders of Mickve Israel. If you are in the Savannah, Georgia, area I recommend a trip to see Mickve Israel. You can also visit their website to learn more about them and take a virtual tour at www.mickveisrael.org
